Custody And Divorce

During a divorce proceeding, child custody can refer to either physical custody (parenting time) or legal custody. Physical custody (parenting time) applies to where the child will live after the parties are divorced, but it also applies to temporary arrangements that are made during the divorce proceedings. Legal custody applies to a parent’s rights and responsibilities to make major decisions that pertain to the child’s welfare. These could include matters of emotional, religious and moral development, education and medical care.

Decisions as to child custody, both physical and legal, are made based upon the best interests of the child. Negotiating parenting plans and property division arrangements can be a complicated process, and you will most likely want to engage in a continuing dialogue with your family lawyer on an ongoing basis. We offer personal attention combined with timely and efficient communications to help you deal with issues as they arise.
