Life After Divorce

I came across this quote today and just had to share it with our readers.

“You can’t reach for anything new if your hands are still full of yesterday’s junk” (Louise Smith).

So often in the messy world of divorce, we can pile up the hurt so high that it hinders us from moving forward.  While everyone needs time to grieve the loss of a loved one, there also comes a time to brush ourselves off, put one leg in front of the other, and move out of that place of hurt.  A lot easier said, than done, right?

I wish there were a magic formula to get past heartache, however there simply isn’t.  Divorces can be messy, hard, painful, and long.  While we do everything on our end to make things easy on you from a legal standpoint, we also want to ensure our clients are taken care of emotionally, and to remember that there is life after divorce and that there is an entire world out there, ready to be enjoyed.

To that end, we’d like to offer some helpful advice on how to start that life again:

1.)  Remember That There is Life After Divorce

As unbelievable as it may seem at times, there will come a point when we are ready to say ‘This marriage is over, it is in the past, and I am ready to move forward.”

2.)  Be Productive

There are few things in life that give you a sense of purpose than being a productive member of society.  Volunteer somewhere, pick up a new hobby, learn something new, do something to help you feel accomplished at the end of the day.

3.)  Remove Catastrophic Language

Saying things like “my life is over,” or “I’ve lost everything” may feel true, but it simply isn’t.  Remove that negative language from your vocabulary and it will change how you physically feel.  Your life is not over, you are at a new beginning and a new start.

4.)  Create Your Support System

We all need to lean on someone else at one point or another.  Who do you have around you that can be that person when life gets too overwhelming?

5.)  Find Your Passion

What gets your heart pumping?  What wakes you up in the middle of the night, excited to get out of bed?  This is the time to run hard after that dream!  Make a list of what you can do to reach your goals!
